Niniejszy numer Zeszytu Naukowego Małopolskiej Wyższej Szkoły Ekonomicznej w Tarnowie poświęcony jest zagadnieniom ważnym we współczesnej gospodarce i społecznej przestrzeni. Wskazano w nim na konieczność podjęcia działań wspierających biznes przez instytucje państwowe i Unii Europejskiej w krótko i długoterminowym okresie, jak również wprowadzenie nowych zasad i aspektów planowania, ładu i polityki przestrzennej – warunkujące realne procesy gospodarowania oparte na zasobach, racjonalności i optymalności – zapewniające de facto trwały i zrównoważony rozwój. Sporo miejsca poświęcono nowym formom organizacyno-prawnym inkubatorów przedsiębiorczości Fablabów w szczególności, organizacji nonprofit, związków i organizacji sportowych. Podkreślono kluczowe znaczenie zwiększenia sprawności systemów zarządzania pracą, kulturą bezpieczeństwa pracy i lepszym niż dotąd wykorzystaniem innowacyjnych technologii mobilnych IT przez osoby starsze z uwzględnieniem zasad ergonomii. W tekstach dotyczących tematyki zarządzania finansami przedsiębiorstw przedstawiono wyniki badań empirycznych dotyczące kwestii wprowadzania w praktyce przedsiębiorstw nowych instrumentów pomiaru i ewidencji wyników finansowych przedsiębiorstw, nowych sposobów obliczania i maksymalizowania wartości dla akcjonariuszy. Artykuły, będące rezultatem prac naukowych prowadzonych w ramach badań podstawowych i wdrożeniowych, konceptualnych i empirycznych, zawierają wiele interesujących poznawczo oraz aplikacyjnie informacji.

Książka dotyczy najważniejszych mechanizmów i uwarunkowań procesu włączania w system bankowy poprzez podnoszenie świadomości finansowej społeczeństwa.

The next issue of the magazine “Business Informatics” will be published. Thanks to the texts submitted by the Authors, which are scientifically valuable, as well as the growing number of readers, our periodical not only continues, but also develops and is positively evaluated during accreditation and evaluation. An extremely valuable feature of the “Business Informatics” series is the fact that the studies contained in it are presentations of various views and points of view on the application of modern ICT solutions. Perspectives and views presented by the Authors often allow the Readers to broaden their own reflections related to the created view on the possibilities and directions of application of information and communication technologies in economic practice. It is also important that not all publications sent for publication meet the formal and substantive requirements. This further increases the significance and value of publications which received double positive reviews and were selected for publication in this issue of “Business Informatics”. Currently, as a result of a multistage and strict formal and substantive verification of our journal, approximately 25% of the submitted texts are accepted for publication. The editor of this issue would like to express his gratitude to all the authors who wanted to share their experiences and opinions. In addition, he would like to thank the reviewers for their insightful and factual assessments of the submitted works.

Asia and Pacific’s growing importance to the rest of the world is widely acknowledged today. The dynamics of Asian economic development have tremendously impacted global trade relationships and regional cooperation. Thus, it is with great pleasure that we deliver another volume of Research Papers on Asia-Pacific economic issues. This year we present 19 papers by various authors who examine the Asia-Pacific region from different perspectives. We decided to group them into 3 Chapters: • Cooperation and trade • Economy and policy • Risks & challenges Papers grouped in the First Chapter describe newly emerging regional trade architecture. You will find there a few analyses of general nature and regional scope (J. Dudziński, A. H. Jankowiak, E. Majchrowska) and some studies on specific trade agreements (A. Klimek writes about Shanghai Free Trade Zone, A. McCaleb and G. Heiduk try to find out what motivates China’s cities to establish partner agreements with cities in Asia, B. Michalski analysing U.S.-Republic of Korea Free Trade Agreement, while M. Maciejewski and W. Zysk look for opportunities for Polish exports in the trade agreement between EU and Vietnam). The Second Chapter is the most diverse one. It is devoted mostly to economic policy issues (including financial sector). S. Bobowski, L. Zyblikiewicz and K. Żukrowska look at the main threads in Asian regionalism. P. Pasierbiak and K. Łopacińska analyse the movements of Chinese capital. M. Dziembała and S. Mazurek deal with the subject of innovation supporting growth and development. Articles in the Third Chapter are focused on extraordinary events influencing economies and development of the Asia-Pacific region. J. Pera prepared an assessment of risk of APEC countries, based on the country risk classification method and selected indexes of internal stability. A. Kukułka and B. Totleben analyse the impact of natural disasters on gross capital formation in Southeastern Asia. Finally, T. Serwach and M. Grabowski and S. Wyciślak deal with synchronization of business cycles and contagion of crises. We sincerely hope that all the articles will be of great value to those who want to understand the role of Asia-Pacific economies in the global economy. Through various interests of authors, our volume provides a valuable insight into the problems of this region. All the papers where submitted for the 8th international scientific conference “Dimensions of Regional Processes in the Asia- Pacific Region” which took place in November 2015 at Wroclaw University of Economics, under the patronage of Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of Economy. We appreciate your time and consideration, and we look forward to the submis-sion of your own good work. We also appreciate the time and effort of our peer re-viewers. Thank you! The presented volume of the Research Papers, devoted to the social responsibility of organizations, refers to the Visser’s concept of CSR 1.0 and CSR 2.0. The concept does not concern so much the computer science categories but the progress and need to redefine its role in society. It is worth emphasizing that the CSR transition has different features depending on a company and country. It is a complex and diverse process, both from the perspective of time and space. Within the framework of scientific discussion held on the CSR transition, several key areas of changes are pointed out. Firstly, early CSR understanding, often identifying it with philanthropy, slowly gives way to partnership relations and cooperation based on good communication between a company and a community. Secondly, the initiatives now should not be a minimalist response to social and environmental stakeholders’ expectations but should be initiated by company’s initiatives included in strategic plans and well-thought-out investments. Thirdly, the actions marked by image aspects and “produced” by PR departments will no longer constitute a credible motives confirmation for taking pro-social initiatives by a company. Enterprises will be judged on actual credible initiatives in the area of environment, society and ethics. Fourthly, a specialization (although still valid) will be gradually replaced by performances integrated into core companies’ operations. Fifthly, the effects of pro-social activity of enterprises, being visible as a form of a product or service, should not be any long er aniche project, but should be directed to a wide audience. In other words – it is about converting the “nice-to-have” product to the “must-have” one. Sixthly, the expansion of the CSR concept from the local initiatives to the global venture will allow a more culturally diverse and internationally applied concept.

The Department of Finance and Accounting at Wrocław University of Economics and the Department of Finance at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń decided to organize cyclical scientific conferences entitled “Finance and accounting for sustainable development.” The first conference, which initiated the entire cycle, was held in Karpacz in 2013, the second in Toruń in 2014, whereas the third one – so far the latest – took place again in Karpacz this year. The primary goals, followed during the current year edition of the conference, were focused on determining the impact of phenomena and financial relations on the integration of social, economic and environmental order, as well as the financial system influence on the degradation of ecosystems, destabilization, social and economic crises. The total of 80 scientific articles, in Polish and English, were sent for the conference, which gathered almost 150 participants – representing 26 universities established in 15 locations in Poland and Ukraine. These studies were subject to the qualification procedure and after receiving positive reviews they were included in one of the three research volumes entitled “Research Papers of Wrocław University of Economics”: 1. Finance and accounting for sustainable development – responsibility, ethics, financial stability – Volume I – Finance, edited by Professor Grażyna Borys and Robert Kurek PhD, 2. Finance and accounting for sustainable development – responsibility, ethics, financial stability – Volume II – Accounting, edited by Professor Jacek Adamek, Associate Professor at Wrocław University of Economics and Joanna Zuchewicz PhD, 3. Finance and accounting for sustainable development – responsibility, ethics, financial stability – Volume III, edited by Professor Teresa Orzeszko, Associate Professor at Wrocław University of Economics and Jarosław Dziuba PhD. The present volume – the last of the three above-mentioned publications – offers 14 articles in English, covering various aspects of finance and accounting functioning in the context of sustainable development. Due to the extensive and diverse thematic range of the presented studies, instead of their grouping they are published in the alphabetical order by their authors’ names. We would like to express our appreciation to the authors for putting in their efforts and preparing interesting texts. We are also very grateful to the reviewers for their hard work in providing valuable comments and useful suggestions, which certainly contributed to the improvement of the reviewed papers quality. We do be-lieve that the undertaken cooperation will not remain an incidental one, but shall result in lasting scientific contacts, meetings and interesting discussions in years to come, during the next editions of our conference, so please feel invited and welcome already today. We remain hopeful that this issue of the research volume will meet its readers’ expectations, match their interests and will be kindly received by them. We would like to wish an interesting and inspiring time while reading it. Jarosław Dziuba, Teresa Orzeszko

Scientists in general agree that processes of ecosystem change, including climate change and loss of biodiversity, have reached a stage where it is no longer possible to avoid negative effects for humanity and the world economy. Our era is called the Anthropocene, which means that humans are the predominant instigator of change at a planetary level. A shift towards a green economy seems to be a reasonable course of action, giving hope of halting the negative trends of development and the transition to more sustainable development. This book is a contribution to the ongoing discussion on the current desired track of the development of society and the economy. The authors, researchers from leading Polish universities, propose to look at the green economy from the more practical perspective. The contents of this book cover the following issues in the context of the development and functioning of a green economy: ecosystem services, performance measurement, development of appropriate policy instruments, production and consumption, energy supply and creation of green jobs.

The book is a result of close cooperation of three research units: Department of City and Regional Planning of Selcuk University in Turkey, Department of Regional and Local Development of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem in the Czech Republic and Department of Spatial Economy and Local Administration of Wrocław University of Economics in Poland. The economy at the beginning of the 21st century is increasingly becoming a global economy. This fact entails different consequences for countries, business units, or indi-viduals. At the same time, rapid advances in technology and the use of the achievements in the practice are changing the living conditions of entire societies. The period which now exists in the economy can be defined as a permanent innovation that enters by diffusion into all areas of socio-economic life. As a result, new services and products are introduced, changing fashions, tastes and preferences. This leads to the dynamic changes in the modern world. These changes are cumulative, and for the average per¬son they are often confusing, on the one hand, and very tedious on the other. It is claimed that only constant learning gives people a chance to adapt to these changes. In the context of these general observations the role of space in contemporary realities should be highlighted. On the one hand, with the development of means of communication the space has ‘shrunk.,’ On the other, thanks to the development of communications infrastructure we have got to know its diversity. It turns out that the space is not only the element of nature (animate and inanimate), but also people with their culture, both material and spiritual one. Anthropogenization of space is a reality and must be reconciled; however, these changes should be made in a thoughtful and rational way. This contemporary space is becoming a major-elect of the economy. This book is an attempt of the description of this knowledge. The authors set themselves the task to bring closer to the reader the contemporary socio-economic space, including cultural and political determinants occurring in the space. Therefore, in the text, except for general information relating to the overall basic human activities in space, we find contents concerning the newest forms of management, innovations and creation of the economic networks, etc. According to the authors, such an approach is to bring closer to the reader the knowledge necessary to know the framework for the functioning of the economy in the new reality, not forgetting the spatial aspect, as each human activity has its place in the time and space. We cannot live out of the time and out of the space. The authors would like to thank reviewers for valuable comments which contributed to the improvement of the quality of the publication. Aktualny, LXIII/1 tom Przeglądu Socjologicznego zawiera prezentację tekstów będących wynikiem prowadzonych badań w różnych ośrodkach akademickich nad procesami współdziałania i jakością życia w niemetropolitalnych miastach europejskich poddawanych wpływom różnych procesów politycznych i gospodarczych. Artykuł następny dotyczy wzorów i struktury zaufania w poprzemysłowych miastach Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej.

In this issue of the journal Economics, seven articles connected with Asian studies are published, in which the authors consider selected economic and social problems in the Asia-Pacific region. The publication opens with the article by Bogusława Skulska and Sebastian Bobowski entitled “Clustering in East Asia – implications of Japan’s industrial development model”. The authors present the phenomenon of clustering, which – driven by the open, liberal course of regional economies in East Asia – has contributed to the massive inflow of foreign direct investment and to the formation of networks involving local small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the birthplace of which was Japan. The traditional orientation of industrial policy on competitiveness has been replaced by an orientation on innovation, which contributed to the dynamic development of the countries located in this region. The importance of cluster development for the economies of both developed (Japan) and emerging (China) countries in East Asia is also seen by Anna Jankowiak in the paper “The specificity of clusters in the Asian economies”. The author emphasises correctly that they contribute to improved competitiveness, increased innovation, and new products, businesses and jobs creation. Clusters, with their characteristics, combine the activities of entrepreneurs, government and scientific entities, thus contribute to the rapid growth of local economies and create links between them. Therefore, they are a very important factor in shaping contemporary Asian regionalism. The transformation of Asian regionalism using the example of the ASEAN is the point of interest of Karolina Klecha-Tylec, who in the article entitled “ASEAN towards the transformation of East Asian regionalism” presents the activities undertaken by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states in order to maintain their important role in East Asia. Today, these countries, despite their enormous economic and political diversity, face the necessity of taking joint action to prevent their marginalisation (not only in regional relations, but also on the global scale). In the article by Susanne Rodemeier under the inspiring title “‘Everyone is a potential leader’. Attractiveness of a charismatic Church in Solo, Java (Indonesia)” we find reflections on the Church’s influence on the organisation of the society in Solo, on the island of Java (Indonesia). The author shows in how many ways the role of an individual in society can be perceived in various Churches, and also tries to answer the question: What factors caused the local population to be increasingly interested in the activities of the Family of God Church? The presentation of the non-material contribution of India to the global development aid system is made by Marcin Nowik in the article “Development policy in India – between theory and practice”. The author points out that today India – as a developing country – is not just a donor but also an active player in the area of aid concept development. The country does not only implement externally imposed economic policy, but also modifies it according to its own local needs and participates in its creation on a partnership basis. The alternative investment market may constitute an advantageous proposition as a place of capital location in times of the global financial crisis. Magdalena Broszkiewicz, in the article “Alternative investment in China a solution for investment at the time of modern financial crisis”, shows that because of the favourable economic situation and projections of markets’ growth (including capital markets) in the Asia-Pacific region, the location is worth the investment. She emphasises that China’s market is particularly interesting because of a variety of alternative investments (real estate, wine, jewellery, agricultural raw materials) and the high savings rate of Chinese society. It is now believed that the most important alternative investment in China is gold. The significance of the outward foreign direct investment promotion for emerging markets is t (...)
