This e-book aims to present the most critical aspects of knowledge about using experiments in economics and practical tools for using them. The topic is extended to the more advanced and increasing in popularity area of biometric research. The book is divided into three parts mirroring experimentation. The first part provides theoretical background and tips about organising own research. The chapter is concluded with a guide focused on writing a research report in APA style. This part includes an example of the actual research report. The next part has two chapters, and both are guided tours allowing to plan and conduct eye-tracking research and electrodermal activity research (EDA). The chapters contain details about preparing experiments, conducting them, using the dedicated software to analyse collected data and interpreting the default charts. The last part is devoted to the data analysis and is universal, goes beyond the biometric experiments. There are three chapters in this part covering the standard procedures used in the analysis of experiments. The first part includes tests for one hypothesis: parametric t-test and One-Way ANOVA and non-parametric siblings: Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test. The next part describes tests allowing testing more hypotheses: ANOVA without repetition and ANOVA with repetitions. Furthermore, the last chapter deals with dependent samples, which are a popular approach in experiments. This part describes the dependent sample t-test and Wilcoxon test. The effect sizes calculations are included; each test is shown with screenshots from SPSS and some additional screenshots from Excel. This approach allows following the procedure step by step. The examples help easily understand procedures and interpretations; they were chosen from areas of sustainability and innovations to match the general idea of the e-books series prepared within the CENETSIE program. The book contains texts that can be useful in the teaching process. It can be helpful in graduate programs in economics and business schools. Programs of doctoral schools cab benefit from this book as well.

This book provides university administrators, professors, and career specialists with a comprehensive introduction to the BE(A)ST (BE Aware Student) approach. The BE(A)ST approach aims at enhancing students’ awareness of personalized career development, fostering a connection between their professional identity, beliefs, and actions to support career awareness. With the BE(A)ST approach, we provide a solution to improve the alignment between the career and the life of our students. The Personalized Career Development (PCD) course based on the BE(A)ST approach and described in this book is the result of three research programs focused on the development of the method and on its adaptation, scientific validation, and dissemination. This book is a must-read for anyone who is serious about career planning, life design or teaching about these ideas. It includes an extremely well researched and authoritative review of all the major books, methods and tools available and advances the state-of-the-art. With suggested improvements and refinements. It also packages these tools into several different university-level workshop and course formats and provides the authors' experiences with delivering these programs to students across different disciplines, cultures and countries. We have the pleasure to present to you the next issue of Business Informatics, focusing on a specific area of IT systems application which is sport. In particular, our attention is paid to using ICT systems to manage and control organization systems of sport clubs, to manage organization processes of training camps, participation in competitions, as well as the organization and leading of trainings. Majority of studies are financed from the grant “Academic Sports Association Platform” (PeAZS), being a tool of monitoring training, organizational and financial processes of the institutions realizing the ACSS program. The first paper presents assumptions and functionalities of the information-communication system called the e-AZS Platform (PeAZS), the purpose of which was to provide the authorities of the AZS-AWF club of Wrocław with a tool enabling them to integrate the flow of information between the authorities of the sports club, coaches, contestants and the widely understood environment of the sports club (sports unions, sponsors, etc.). The second paper describes a computer aided system for designing sport training. It is important to underline that this system fully identifies all of the factors having influence over the effectiveness of a training process. The system relates to quantifiable disciplines, such as athletics, but the authors expect the development of this system to cover unquantifiable disciplines, such as combative sports, too. The third paper describes and explains the usage of IT and electronic tools to register behaviours when playing volleyball, based on the example of Plus Liga. The fourth paper describes new Internet communication technologies, basing on the example of Polish sports organizations. In particular, popular forms of Internet communication (NICT) were described, while pointing to the need of improvement of the competences relating to the use of NICT. In the fifth paper the authors investigate the issue of the valuation of sports clubs’ intangible assets, with the use of new media. It is shown that media value, created by the new media (social media), may be an indirect element possibly deciding on the value of a club and particular subjects participating in it. A practical example of this type of a valuation process (assessment of the value of an event, a club, a player) is Pentagon Research – a company which has been dealing with these issues for many years now. The sixth paper presents the possibility of using the e-learning solutions in sports organizations. The authors highlight the need to widen communication channels in the processes of sports learning, and present, in a systematic manner, the implications of solutions relating to electronic development and building of knowledge repositories. The seventh paper describes the functioning of fitness clubs, so popular nowadays all around Poland. They require the application of modern IT tools in client management. The article describes the basic functions and modules used to manage data, allowing for the improvement of communications processes with the clients of a fitness club. The eighth paper describes theoretical indications of the possibilities to develop an integrated management system for the needs of sports organizations. It has been suggested that the development of such system should be based on the concept of business social responsibility. An important added value of this concept is the thesis on the need of cross-sectoral integration, giving rise to the development of a system engaging private and public subjects, which may, in turn, favour the improvement of the relationships between the subjects functioning in these sectors. The ninth, and final, paper of this issue of Business Informatics is research on designing strategies for managing the relationship with clients with the use of broadly understood ICT tools. It is worth mentioning here that the research was carried out basing on the example of a global sports organization – Pure Jatomi. As a consequence, the authors describe ICT tools in the context of the p (...)

Niniejszy tom „Przeglądu Socjologicznego” poświęcony jest problematyce warsztatu badawczego. Zawiera teksty dotyczące stosowania różnorodnych technik badawczych, ich ograniczeń i modyfikacji. Autorzy – przedstawiciele różnych ośrodków akademickich i firm badawczych – rozważają problemy związane z różnorodnymi zastosowaniami badań sondażowych: –– z wykorzystaniem i ograniczeniami sondażu deliberatywnego – stosowaniem procedury Mixed Mode, a więc łączenia w badaniu zarówno różnych technik wywiadu, jak i ankiety, oraz zjawiska niedostępności respondentów; –– specyfiki komunikacyjnej w wywiadach osobistych, telefonicznych i wspomaganych komputerowo.

PERFORMATIVE ASPECTS OF ART The concept of performativity has been usually evoked in the discussions on the philosophy of language and the reflection on theatre and performance art. However, in recent years there have been some attempts to broaden its scope. The theoretically inclined researchers have been working out the main assumptions of the aesthetics of performativity. These are claimed to include the challenging of the boundaries of artistic disciplines, and emphasizing the active role of the recipients, for whom the art works become events developing in consequence of their actions. Besides those attempts to grasp the theoretical consequences of “the performative turn”, one should also note some very interesting practical analyses, employing the theory in the discussion on concrete works from different domain of art. It appears that one can discover transformational potential, focus on change rather than just existence, even in the domains traditionally regarded as “artifactual” (painting, sculpture, installations). The planned volume of “Art Inquiry” will be devoted to the reflection on both directions of expansion of the concept of performativity. We would like the authors to consider its general significance for aesthetics and for the theory of various domains of art. We also hope that they will show the changes occurring when its unique perspective is adopted in the discussion on both theatre, paratheatrical experiments, and film, and the domains which have traditionally emphasized the role of the artistic artifact. The title of this volume invites questions about the possible scope of performativity and its kinds.

ARTISTIC ALLERGIES In its literal application, the term allergy, connoting a reaction different from the customary – from the Greek allos (“different”) and ergos (“reaction”) – is used in the field of medicine. However, in the cultural domain, and particularly in the realm of art, one may discern some reactions analogous to the pathological behavior of a tissue when confronted with an allergen. Such behavior manifests itself in the form of negative sensitivity, lacking normal justification, which leads to a subconscious or semi-conscious avoidance of certain notions or works of art, or even to their active negation and rejection. Such reactions may be individual in nature or may be manifested by smaller or larger groups of people. The causes of such allergies or hypersensitivity may be genetic or environmental. They may be sought in the original circumstances or in some activities of the organism; one can try to established them by focusing on the incidence of the infection. Artistic allergies understood in this way have occurred frequently in the history of various arts, also manifesting themselves in the fields of art theory and aesthetics. The present issue of Art Inquiry sets out to describe some of their varieties and to examine the mechanisms governing their appearance and their subsequent course. Grzegorz Sztabiński Translated by Krzysztof Majer ALERGIE ARTYSTYCZNE Słowo alergia oznaczające odmienną reakcję (gr. allos – inny + ergosreakcja) stosowane jest w znaczeniu dosłownym w medycynie. W dziedzinie kultury, a chyba szczególnie w sztuce, zauważyć można jednak sposoby reagowania zachodzące analogicznie do patologicznej reakcji tkanek na alergen.

W „Pracach Instytutu Elektrotechniki” publikowane są oryginalne artykuły naukowe, prace przeglądowe, prace habilitacyjne i skrócone prace doktorskie z zakresu szeroko pojętej elektrotechniki. Wszystkie artykuły naukowe zgłoszone do publikacji w czasopiśmie były zawsze recenzowane.

Margins and Marginalization The concepts spelled out in the title Margins and Marginalization usually carry negative connotations. They are associated with having to live outside the main current of events, or with the peripheral and thus inessential aspects of an artwork. Such an understanding assumes a sharp division into major, central, important elements, and minor or marginal ones. However, the validity of such division has been questioned by some contemporary theoreticians and artists. Its arbitrariness and relativist character had been also pointed out in the past. The aim of the 2014 volume is to investigate the occurrence of the titular concepts in the theory and practice of both old and contemporary art. We wish to examine different conceptualizations of margins and marginalization and we are open to a broad range of approaches to his topic.
