Contemporary management control and reporting both face challenges. Consequently, a new and more sophisticated scientific approach is needed. From one point of view, interdisciplinary studies and theories are necessary. From another point of view, empirical research and practical issues call for a more specific and specialized approach. This complexity is reflected by the content of this book, which covers topics that emerge from present world’s complexity. Therefore, the authors focus on ever-important issues (such as the strategic approach and its support by management control and reporting, survival of companies), and more modern issues (e.g. cultural aspects, measurement and reporting adjusted to branches, spheres and organizations and specific issues of management control and reporting). The strategic approach to managerial control and financial statements and their role for company’s survival is presented in papers by J. Dyczkowska (who addresses the question whether annual reports communicate strategic issues and focuses her study on reporting practices of high-tech companies), A. Bieńkowska, Z. Kral, A. Zabłocka-Kluczka (who explain the role of responsibility centers in strategic controlling), P. Kroflin (who explores the value-based management and management reporting examining impacts of value reporting on investment decisions and company value perception) and A. Reizinger-Ducsai (who discusses bankruptcy prediction and financial statements). The problems of management control and reporting and their adjustment to specific conditions and organizations are undertaken by T. Dyczkowski (who introduces his NGO performance model), Z. Kes and K. Nowosielski (who present the case study of the process of cost assignment in a local railway company providing passenger transportation services), S. Łęgowik--Świącik, M. Stępień, S. Kowalska and M. Łęgowik-Małolepsza (who analyse the efficiency of the heat market enterprise management process in terms of the concept of the cost of capital), and M. Pietrzak and P. Pietrzak (who discuss the problem of performance measurement in the public higher education). The cultural aspect of managerial control and reporting is explored in papers written by M. Nowak (who presents cultural determinants of accounting, performance management and costs problems showing the issue from Polish perspective using G. Hofstede and GLOBE cultural dimensions) and P. Bednarek, R. Brühl and M. Hanzlick (who provide a literature overview of planning and cross-cultural research). The specific problems and concepts of managerial control and reporting are investigated by M. Ciołek (who discusses the lean thinking and overhead costs), E. Nowak (who analyses the role of costs control role in controlling company operation), Ü. Pärl, R. Koyte, S. Näsi (who examine middle managers’ mediating role in MCS implementation), R.L. Sichel (who discusses the relevance of intellectual property for management control), J. Paranko and P. Huhtala (who analyse the productivity measurement at the factory level). Marta Nowak

The 2021 issue of Financial Science. Nauki o finansach comprises five new papers. The variety of topics results, on the one hand, from the interest in fundamental, timeless issues, but on the other hand, it is a mirror of current challenges in finance. Marcin Bielicki took up the subject of performance measurement methods used by public venture capital funds, which at the same time try to satisfy the often-conflicting needs of private and public investors. The author conducted in-depth interviews and a survey among the managers of these entities. The paper shows that the greatest emphasis is placed on financial efficiency, while non-financial determinants are largely ignored. Ewa Blaszke reviewed the most important publications on institutional investors’ transactions in stock markets. Despite several decades of research, it is still not clear how the transactions carried out by these investors affect stock price volatility. Although it is a common claim that their managers observe their actions and imitate each other, the results of empirical studies do not settle this question. This paper examines the most relevant theoretical premise regarding the influence of institutional investors on stock prices. Anna Dada investigated whether there were joint-stock companies listed on the FSE between 2000-2017 that paid regular dividends. The author compares the dividend companies and other companies concerning the direction of their cash flows. The conclusions may be useful for managers of listed companies when they plan their dividend policy. It should be supported by rational cash flow management. Željka Kadlec, Marija Žunić, Marijana Lovrenović looked at economic indicators that reflect the effects of the pandemic in countries such as Italy, Germany, Russia, China, and Croatia. Special attention was paid to the intercultural characteristics of these countries (intercultural communication, intercultural competence, intercultural sensitivity, and intercultural conflicts). Silvana Secinaro, Valerio Brescia, Aurelio Secinaro, Davide Calandra aimed to determine a methodology on the issue of costing systems and costing methods applicable to all health services carried out on a large scale that by their nature have a limited variability of resources. The authors used the time-driven activity-based costing (TDABC) method which can be useful for healthcare managers to evaluate the level of costs and to compare the internal results with the reimbursement tariffs from the national health service. Richard Van Horne used two models, a lagged-effects model, and a serial correlation model. He identified potential liquidity risk in hedge fund portfolios. The author found that much of what passes for fund Alpha in a multi-factor risk model lacking a liquidity risk factor is actually a compensation for bearing liquidity risk in the context of a model that includes the innovative liquidity risk factor. This result has implications for both pre-investment due diligence and manager selection as well as post-investment fund performance evaluation and risk management. We are sure that you will find the whole issue of real interest

This textbook contains materials for several courses which are taught in the Master’s Programme in Financial Engineering that is run at the Poznań University of Economics and Business. The book consists of seven chapters that cover the main areas of quantitative finance: investment, financial instruments pricing, financial risk measuring and management as well as corporate finance. The main part of the book is devoted to the mathematical models used in the field of finance. There are four chapters devoted to the pricing of financial instruments: from pricing equities using Capital Asset Pricing Model, through derivative instruments on equites, to more complicated derivatives on interest rates. The last topic is illustrated with some genuine examples from the markets in the post-crisis period. One chapter describes basic models and concepts used in measuring financial risk. Two other chapters are about investment. One describes the way in which companies finance their activities. The second one describes investment strategies of hedge funds. All chapters contain exercises and examples from the real markets. In order to understand the topics from the textbook, some prerequisites are required. It is assumed that a potential reader knows the basics of probability theory, linear algebra and calculus. The knowledge of econometrics and statistical methods used in economics will also be useful in better comprehension of the book. All these issues are usually taught in Bachelor’s programmes in Economics or Finance.

The book contains a series of eight long case studies on various business issues in emerging markets (for instance Polish, Chinese, Nigerian). The authors focus on a variety of topics from marketing, through business operations, finance, leadership, innovation, business development, internationalization and decisions to human resources management. Also, the perspective of the analyzed issues is varied, in the initial case studies, the microeconomic approach dominates, then the mezoeconomic and macroeconomic approach. The team of authors included both academics, with extensive teaching experience in English-speaking studies, and business practitioners whose practical knowledge allows them to explore contemporary business challenges in emerging markets. We are putting this book in the hands of lecturers and students of economics, finance, and management, believing that it will be a source of inspiration, discussion and will allow to better explore contemporary business. At the same time, we hope that by offering this book, we are filling a gap in the publication market, which has been dominated by case studies dedicated to well-known companies, well-known brands, and mature markets.

The aim of this book is to present the most important issues related to sustainable development (SD) and corporate social responsibility (CSR). They are discussed from a macro and micro perspective, both in the form of theoretical foundations of these concepts and practical examples of companies operating in Central and Eastern European countries that have implemented these ideas in their daily operations and translated them into corporate and functional strategies. The book consists of four parts. The first one is theoretical in its assumptions and is devoted to explaining the key concepts of sustainable development (SD) and corporate social responsibility (CSR). The authors describe the determinants of sustainable development in the contemporary world, including the most important ones, such as globalization, climate change, poverty, unlimited consumption, as well as limited access to natural resources - all in relation to the goals of sustainable development. The chapter also discusses the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR), which is now recognized as the process by which business contributes to the implementation of sustainable development. How sustainable development (SD) and corporate social responsibility (CSR) are incorporated into the organization's strategies and influence the corporate strategy on the corporate and functional areas of the organization is presented in the last chapter of the first part of the e-book. The next part of the e-book helps readers understand the concepts of SD and CSR in the field of organizational strategy - in strategic management, and at the level of functional strategies—marketing, human resources, marketing research, accounting and operational management. The authors explain the reasons why companies need to consider the local and global perspective when setting SDGs, and the existence of potential conflicts within them. Taking into account the area of marketing, the authors point to the increase in environmental and social awareness of all stakeholders, which translates into changes in the criteria for decision-making by managers and risk assessment. The issue of sustainability is also the subject of market research. Companies producing products and services, institutions dealing with environmental or consumer protection, scientists and students conduct many research projects related to, inter alia, much more. How to use secondary data for analysis and how to prepare, conduct, analyze and interpret the results of primary research in that area are discussed in detail in the next chapter of this section. The concept of SD also refers to the basic functions of human resource management (HRM)—recruitment, motivation, evaluation and control. They should take into account SD not only for the efficiency of the organization and long-term economic benefits, but also for ethical reasons. Thanks to the SHRM, the awareness and behavior of the entire organization can strongly express sustainable goals in the planning and implementation of the overall corporate strategy. The growing importance of the idea of SD and the concept of CSR also resulted in the need for accounting and finance to develop solutions enabling the provision of information on the methods and results of implementing these concepts in entities operating on the market. This part of the book also examines manufacturing activities in the context of sustainability. As a result, many problems arise: waste of resources, mismanagement, excessive energy consumption, environmental pollution, use of human potential, etc. The chapter presents such concepts as: zero-waste, lean-manufacturing, six-sigma, circular production, design and recycling products in the life cycle as well as ecological and environmentally friendly production. The next two parts of the e-book contain examples of companies from Central and Eastern Europe that used SD goals in their strategies, questions and tasks for readers.

The aim of this e-book is to present the most important aspects related to sustainability, corporate social responsibility and innovation from an accounting perspective. The book contains parts that deal with accounting aspects of sustainability and innovations. The book consists of ten chapters devoted to relevant and topical issues of sustainability and innovations. Chapter 1 Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility in Accounting is an introduction to further considerations and deals with the essence of sustainable development, corporate social responsibility and their recognition in accounting. Chapter 2 Social Responsibility Reporting Standards presents the most important reporting guidance such as GRI, OECD, United Nations Global Compact, International Organization for Standardization. Chapter 3 Narrative reporting focuses on descriptions and explanations in accounting reports. The chapter presents the links between accounting and language, the development of accounting narratives and the factors determining the use of narratives. Chapter 4 Integrated reporting discusses the motivations, objectives and the process of preparing an integrated report. Integrated reporting can prove to be an effective tool for businesses looking to shift their reporting focus from annual financial performance to long-term shareholder value creation. Chapter 5 Non-financial reporting in selected European countries presents the experience of Croatia, the Czech Republic and Poland in the field of preparing non-financial reports. A significant contribution to promoting the importance of sustainability reporting was made by the Non-Financial Reporting Directive (2014/95/EU). Chapter 6, Socially Responsible Investments discusses the essence of socially responsible investing and socially responsible investment. Socially responsible investing (SRI) is a decision making process concerning the allocation of free financial resources, where the investor aims at maximization of profit and minimization of risk on one part and includes the socio-ethical and environmental-ecological considerations on the other. Chapter 7 External costs – accounting perspective describes costs connected with using goods such as air, soil, water, silence or the aesthetics of the surroundings. One of the biggest problems for accounting in the future will be measuring the volume of using these goods or measuring the size of reduction in the quality of public goods suffered and assigning the decrease to particular companies. Chapter 8 Derivatives in accounting is devoted to financial instruments and presents two different approaches to accounting of derivatives: general model and hedge accounting. Derivatives are used to protect the enterprise against financial risk related to changes in prices on the markets, changes in the exchange rate or changes in interest rates, as well as for commercial purposes. Chapter 9 Costs of Research and Development shows the company's activity in the field of research and development and the related costs. R&D constitute an increasingly important element of the functioning of enterprises. Chapter 10 Cryptoassets – Nature, Valuation and Disclosures in Accounting focuses on cryptocurrencies (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum etc.) and digital tokens which are specific rights or values representatives. As a result of the transformation on the financial market, we are currently dealing with cryptoassets, which are a creation of blockchain technologies and the changing habits of the digital society. One of areas that there are a lot of doubts regarding these new technological solutions is accounting.

Monografia jest próbą kompleksowego podejścia do tematu społecznie odpowiedzialnego działania mikro, małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw. Problem badawczy sprowadza się do pytania, jakie czynniki i w jakim stopniu determinują społecznie odpowiedzialne zarządzanie w sektorze MŚP w Polsce. Ponadto poznane determinanty mogą wspomóc proces przetworzenia koncepcji CSR w taki sposób, by była ona odpowiednia do specyfiki funkcjonowania mikro, małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw. W rozdziale drugim opisano specyfikę funkcjonalną i zarządczą sektora mikro, małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw. Kolejne rozdziały poświęcono metodyce, wynikom, ocenie i wnioskom płynącym z badań empirycznych przeprowadzonych w polskim sektorze przedsiębiorstw mikro, małych i średnich.

Organisational Transformation as Exemplified by a Public Administration Unit The monograph is a study of introducing the concept of a learning organisation in a public sector organisation. The actions presented are desirable rather than necessary from the stakeholders' point of view, which significantly affects the flexibility and feasibility of the concept. For this reason, the monograph is important in academic discourse, but above all it has a significant practical dimension. The assumptions of a learning organisation have been implemented by numerous enterprises. There are instruments supporting this process and facilitating knowledge management in organisations; however, all this refers primarily to business and organisations operating on the market. The publication aims to show the process of implementing the principles of a learning organisation in a public sector organisation, which is a very important element of the business environment. It also attempts to describe processes that are still on. It does not give unequivocal recipes, but the authors hope that it will prove helpful in reforming public sector organisations. A sector undoubtedly requiring such reforms. ********* Dr hab. prof. Wszystkie artykuły naukowe zgłoszone do publikacji w czasopiśmie były zawsze recenzowane.
