Temat: Globalization ; BRI ; GVC
In the face of challenges that the world will be facing in the near future, numerous ideas have arisen seeking to address the problems of the modern world economy. Of necessity are improvements in the international trading and investment system, as well as the creation of a global value chain (GVC) – beneficial to all participants. One of the more significant initiatives which can contribute to tackling the challenges facing the contemporary global economy is the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), colloquially known as the New Silk Road. As part of the BRI, China aims to not only accrue economic benefits for itself, but also to become a regional and possibly global leader, which can introduce modernity into regions that the world has “forgotten”. Given the above, the aim of this work is to discuss the BRI initiative and to identify the consequences of its implementation, both regionally and across the entire global economy. This is particularly important in light of growing international opinion that we are in fact witnessing a new form of globalization – referred to by some, as Chi-globalization. The question is, can China really drive this new world order?

On the densely and richly populated Polish intellectual scene, Stanisław Obirek is one of the most prominent and significant, indeed outstanding actors. He stands out from the rest of actors for the role he designed and scripted for himself and has been consistently, over many years, performing; (...) a role that follows no ready-made scripts and lines, a role that Obirek originated and developed (...) and which it have succeeded by now to make an indispensable part of the Polish intellectual life. One should be grateful to the publishers for collecting, (...) the manifold Obirek's writings on the subjects ranging from the general condition of religion in contemporary world, through the problems related to the Church's place and role in society (...). and up to the convoluted, intricate and puzzling case of the Polish-Jewish relation, which Stanisław Obirek is not the first Catholic tackling, but perhaps the first scholar attempting to approach it as a Catholic. One should be graleful to the publishers, as what they offer the readers is a genuine treasure-trove of fascinating findings, convincing interpretations and inspiring visions, which will most certainly earn a distinguished and durable place in the ongoing debates in Poland, but also all around our disunited yet struggling to unite planet.

It is our great pleasure to deliver another volume of Research Papers on Asia-Pacific economic issues. Each year we present you multiple points of view on that topic, trying to show how much the processes in Asia & Pacific affect the world economy. After nine years of hosting international scientific conference dealing with that region’s affairs, we are still confident that these issues are important not only for the countries of the region, but also for economies worldwide. This year we have chosen for you 15 articles. All of them where submitted for this year’s conference entitled “Asian Economies in the Context of Globalization”. Seeing that some authors describe the issues of countrywide importance and others of those having regional or global meaning, we have decided to group them according to the criterion of impact range. The first chapter – Asian Economies in the Global Context – is a collection of papers on general regionalization or globalization issues. T. Sporek is trying to refresh the view of the globalization processes occurring at the crossroads of economy and politics. M. Bartosik-Purgat is analyzing sources of information about products and services in the light of cross-cultural research. E. Majchrowska is using Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership case to show the importance of mega-regional blocks in global trade. In addition, we decided to add to this part the articles the subject of which is not so general, but it applies to trade relationships of a global nature. This will be the EU-India trade and investment agreement (G. Mazur), Poland-ASEAN agri-food products trade (K. Kita) or anti-dumping procedures against China under WTO rules (J. Skrzypczyńska). Articles in the second chapter are – as the title implies – embedded in a regional context. P. Pasierbiak deals with trade regionalization in East Asia. S. Bobowski offers an insight into ASEAN-Japan Economic Partnership. A. Kuropka and A.H. Jankowiak analyse the impact of natural disasters on production networks in the region. As the last in this section we have placed the article about Singaporean Competitiveness Model applied in European economies (M. Żmuda). It may be not strictly connected with Asia & Pacific, but its concept is to transfer Asian experience to Europe at the regional level. The last chapter – Asian Economies in the Local Context – is mostly about domestic matters of Asian countries. You will find there three articles about China (J. Bogołębska writing about Chinese monetary policy, A. Klimek describing cross-border mergers and acquisitions by Chinese state-controlled enterprises, S. Stępień and A. Sapa showing Chinese pork sector), one about Indonesia (Development of Islamic banking in Indonesia by I. Sobol) and one about North Korea (M. Kightley applying game theory in prediction of political changes in that state). We think it is an interesting set of papers you will find valuable in your studies. We also hope that your scientific interests will continue to be associated with Asia and that is why we invite you to the 10th anniversary conference which will be held at the Wrocław University of Economics in November 2017. We appreciate your time and consideration, as also time and effort of our peer reviewers. We look forward to the further submissions of interesting papers on Asia & Pacific. Thank you! Toward the „new normal” after Covid-19 – a post-transition economy perspective contains a collection of 21 papers addressing the societal, political, economic, and managerial challenges of the post-pandemic world. The book is divided into three parts. Part one touches on the supranational and national level aspects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Part two focuses on business sectors and industries, whereas part three provides the perspective of companies. Authors – researchers from the Poznań University of Economics and Business, Institute of International Business and Economics – share their research results, voice concerns, and offer recommendations on creating today’s world more immune to shocks and ready for unknowns. The pandemic of Covid-19 revealed many weaknesses of the global economy, national economies and states, business sectors, and individual companies. It’s undoubtedly the turning point, but simultaneously it’s an opportunity and a spur to change toward the new and sustainable normal.

ARTISTIC ALLERGIES In its literal application, the term allergy, connoting a reaction different from the customary – from the Greek allos (“different”) and ergos (“reaction”) – is used in the field of medicine. However, in the cultural domain, and particularly in the realm of art, one may discern some reactions analogous to the pathological behavior of a tissue when confronted with an allergen. Such behavior manifests itself in the form of negative sensitivity, lacking normal justification, which leads to a subconscious or semi-conscious avoidance of certain notions or works of art, or even to their active negation and rejection. Such reactions may be individual in nature or may be manifested by smaller or larger groups of people. The causes of such allergies or hypersensitivity may be genetic or environmental. They may be sought in the original circumstances or in some activities of the organism; one can try to established them by focusing on the incidence of the infection. Artistic allergies understood in this way have occurred frequently in the history of various arts, also manifesting themselves in the fields of art theory and aesthetics. The present issue of Art Inquiry sets out to describe some of their varieties and to examine the mechanisms governing their appearance and their subsequent course. Grzegorz Sztabiński Translated by Krzysztof Majer ALERGIE ARTYSTYCZNE Słowo alergia oznaczające odmienną reakcję (gr. allos – inny + ergosreakcja) stosowane jest w znaczeniu dosłownym w medycynie. W dziedzinie kultury, a chyba szczególnie w sztuce, zauważyć można jednak sposoby reagowania zachodzące analogicznie do patologicznej reakcji tkanek na alergen.

THE HOMELESSNESS OF ART References to „being settled” somewhere and being „homeless” have reappeared in various disciplines of the humanities for a long time. Those concepts were used in different contexts and in different senses. In 20th century philosophy, much attention was paid to the Heideggerian concept of man as “the neighbour of Being”, i.e. his dwelling “in the nearness of Being”. This image led to attempts at discovering what is unique to the human condition. Lukacs offered a critique of „transcendental homelessness”, which he saw as characteristic of contemporary culture. Other philosophers pointed out that the fast-changing reality and the engagement in utopian projects characteristic for the condition of the modern man, are conducive to our loss of the sense of settlement. The second half of the 20th century introduced the discourse of unsettlement, non-belonging. Adorno negated the possibility of feeling at home in the world after Auschwitz. Other authors offered the concept of “the uncanny” (das Unheimliche), or being faced with strange and incomprehensible forces in one’s own home, only illusorily familiar. It has been also pointed out that the sense of settlement and the associated feeling of safety may turn out to be limiting. Freedom must mean the loss of the sense of safety, familiarity, commitment. Encountering what is different, marginal, often suffering or victimized (e.g. in feminist or postcolonial discourses) also sensitizes us to the importance of opening ourselves to new experience, which leads to the de-stabilization of our own monolithic home. The subject area outlined here may be variously related to art. On the one hand, art may be considered as an important voice in the discussion on our sense of belonging or uprootedness, on the other the question of whether it should be rooted in tradition, or leave this “home” to gain new experiences is also pertinent. The volume of Art Inquiry to which we seek your contributions will be devoted to this set of issues. Your prospective papers should concern some theoretical aspects of the concepts mentioned above in relation to art, artistic activity, reception of art works, or offer a case study of some artistic endeavour in which those concepts have taken a concrete shape.

Margins and Marginalization The concepts spelled out in the title Margins and Marginalization usually carry negative connotations. They are associated with having to live outside the main current of events, or with the peripheral and thus inessential aspects of an artwork. Such an understanding assumes a sharp division into major, central, important elements, and minor or marginal ones. However, the validity of such division has been questioned by some contemporary theoreticians and artists. Its arbitrariness and relativist character had been also pointed out in the past. The aim of the 2014 volume is to investigate the occurrence of the titular concepts in the theory and practice of both old and contemporary art. We wish to examine different conceptualizations of margins and marginalization and we are open to a broad range of approaches to his topic.
