Hereby we present he next issue of the magazine Business Informatics. Thanks to the texts submitted by the authors, which are scientifically valuable, as well as the growing number of readers, our periodical not only continues, but also develops and is positively evaluated during accreditation and evaluation. An extremely valuable feature of the Business Informatics series is the fact that the studies contained in it are the presentations of various points of view on the application of modern ICT solutions. Perspectives and views presented by the authors often allow readers to broaden their own reflections related to the created view on the possibilities and directions of application of information and communication technologies in economic practice. It is also important that not all publications sent for publication meet the formal and substantive requirements. This further increases the significance and value of publications which have received double positive reviews and have been selected for publication in this issue of Business Informatics. Currently, as a result of a multistage and strict formal and substantive verification of our journal, approximately 25% of the submitted texts are accepted for the publication. The editor of this issue would like to express his gratitude to all the authors who wanted to share their experiences and opinions. In addition, he would like to thank the reviewers for their insight and factual assessments of the submitted works.

In 2010 the EU launched a flagship policy initiative “Innovation Union” aimed at increasing the innovation rate and translating it into smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. Strengthening the knowledge base is one of its six pillars. This research, part of the “I3U – Investigating the Impact of the Innovation Union” project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, covers the impact of selected areas of the Innovation Union initiative on innovation in Europe. The questions that the book attempts to answer are the following: What are the effects of these diverse policy initiatives implemented at the EU level? To what extent have they been implemented after seven years since the Innovation Union launch? What are the policy implications and lessons learned? The research findings are discussed in detail in eight chapters. These are based on a variety of unique data collected during desk and field research, including surveys and interviews, which refl ect the opinions of all innovation system actors and stakeholders affected by these policy instruments.

The purpose of the article is to identify the problem of the mismatch between the maturity structure of assets and liabilities of the Polish banking sector and Polish listed banks. The article analyzes the maturity balance sheet structure of the Polish banking sector in 2010 and 2019 and Polish listed banks in 2019. The results of this analysis indicate a significant mismatch in the maturity structure of assets and liabilities of Polish banks and the need for a significant reconstruction of the structure of liabilities in the direction of their extension. Furthermore, the results of the analysis identify the most and the least secure Polish listed banks in terms of mismatches in the maturity balance sheet structure, as well as banks with opposite trends in the maturity structure compared to the Polish banking sector.

The notion of financial sciences covers quite a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines. The most obvious are public finance, corporate finance, capital and money markets, banking and accountancy. Therefore, to make the structure more clear, we divided the contents of previous volumes of our journal into several parts with their own subtitles. However, more and more issues appeared that could not be attributed to any of these “classic” branches, like virtual money, personal finance, or interdisciplinary problems. We decided therefore to present the contents of this issue of Financial Sciences in the alphabetical order of the authors’ names. The reader will notice that most of the articles included in this volume go far beyond the standard classification. An obvious reason is that almost any human public activity has some financial aspects, and this is clearly reflected in all the articles published here. It is my honour and pleasure to thank all the authors for their creative contribution to the contents of this volume, as well as the referees for their efforts to maintain the already acknowledged scientific level of our journal. I hope that the reading of the articles presented here will bring some interesting insights into the current state of the evolution of the financial sciences. Ewa Bogacka-Kisiel

The aim of the e-book is to present the theoretical, cognitive and practical aspects of the essence and complexity of operational management in a production company. The presented modern production methods together with the challenges and problems of contemporary enterprises should better help to understand the issues of sustainable development, with particular emphasis on waste. The book consists of six chapters devoted to relevant and topic issues relating to the core business of an industrial enterprise. Chapter 1 The nature of the industrial enterprise is an introduction to further considerations and deals with the essence of the basic aspects of the company. Both popular and less known definitions of an enterprise, its features, functions and principles of operation are presented. An important part of the chapter is the presentation and formulation of strategic, tactical and operational goals. Moreover, the division of enterprises is presented with the use of various criteria and the features of the industrial market, which make it distinct. Chapter 2 The operational management evolution and its role in the industrial enterprise discusses the evolution and concept of production and operational management. The management levels were also presented, indicating their most important functions. An integral part of the chapter is the essence of the production system, viewed through the prism of the five elements. Chapter 3 Functions and role in operations management presents the issues concerning the organization of production processes, production capacity and inventory management. This part also presents considerations on cooperation and collaboration between enterprises in the process of creating value. Chapter 4 Traditional methods used in operational activities focuses on methods such as benchmarking, outsourcing, core competences, JIT, MPR I and MRP II, as well as TQM and kaizen. Knowledge of these methods should contribute to understanding the activities of modern enterprises, the way of company functioning, the realization of production activities, as well as aspects related to building a competitive position. Chapter 5 Modern methods used in production-operations management discusses the less common and less frequently used production methods, based on a modern and innovative approach. In particular, it was focused on: Shop Floor Control and cooperative manufacturing, environment-conscious manufacturing (ECM) and life-cycle assessment ( LCA), waste management and recycling, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), virtual enterprise, World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and House of Quality (HOQ), theory of constraints (TOC), Drum Buffer Rope (DBR), group technology (GT) and cellular manufacturing (CM), Demand Chain Management and competitive intelligence (CI). In the last section discusses: the role of sustainable statistical process control and Computer-Aided Process Planning in context formatting of information management. Chapter 6 Problems of sustainable development and challenges related to production and operations management describes the problem and challenges related to production and operations activities. In particular, attention was paid to the threats related to changes in global warming, the growing scale of waste, or the processes of globalization. It was pointed out that the emerging problem may be both a threat and a chance for the development of enterprises. An integral part of the chapter are also considerations on technical progress, innovation and the importance of human capital in operational activities.

Niniejszy numer Zeszytu Naukowego Małopolskiej Wyższej Szkoły Ekonomicznej w Tarnowie poświęcony jest zagadnieniom ważnym we współczesnej gospodarce i społecznej przestrzeni. Wskazano w nim na konieczność podjęcia działań wspierających biznes przez instytucje państwowe i Unii Europejskiej w krótko i długoterminowym okresie, jak również wprowadzenie nowych zasad i aspektów planowania, ładu i polityki przestrzennej – warunkujące realne procesy gospodarowania oparte na zasobach, racjonalności i optymalności – zapewniające de facto trwały i zrównoważony rozwój. Sporo miejsca poświęcono nowym formom organizacyno-prawnym inkubatorów przedsiębiorczości Fablabów w szczególności, organizacji nonprofit, związków i organizacji sportowych. Podkreślono kluczowe znaczenie zwiększenia sprawności systemów zarządzania pracą, kulturą bezpieczeństwa pracy i lepszym niż dotąd wykorzystaniem innowacyjnych technologii mobilnych IT przez osoby starsze z uwzględnieniem zasad ergonomii. W tekstach dotyczących tematyki zarządzania finansami przedsiębiorstw przedstawiono wyniki badań empirycznych dotyczące kwestii wprowadzania w praktyce przedsiębiorstw nowych instrumentów pomiaru i ewidencji wyników finansowych przedsiębiorstw, nowych sposobów obliczania i maksymalizowania wartości dla akcjonariuszy. Artykuły, będące rezultatem prac naukowych prowadzonych w ramach badań podstawowych i wdrożeniowych, konceptualnych i empirycznych, zawierają wiele interesujących poznawczo oraz aplikacyjnie informacji. Jakuba z Paradyża, Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Poznaniu, Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Krakowie, Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego im. The book contains a series of eight long case studies on various business issues in emerging markets (for instance Polish, Chinese, Nigerian). The authors focus on a variety of topics from marketing, through business operations, finance, leadership, innovation, business development, internationalization and decisions to human resources management. Also, the perspective of the analyzed issues is varied, in the initial case studies, the microeconomic approach dominates, then the mezoeconomic and macroeconomic approach. The team of authors included both academics, with extensive teaching experience in English-speaking studies, and business practitioners whose practical knowledge allows them to explore contemporary business challenges in emerging markets. We are putting this book in the hands of lecturers and students of economics, finance, and management, believing that it will be a source of inspiration, discussion and will allow to better explore contemporary business. At the same time, we hope that by offering this book, we are filling a gap in the publication market, which has been dominated by case studies dedicated to well-known companies, well-known brands, and mature markets.
