We have the pleasure to present to you the next issue of Business Informatics, focusing on a specific area of IT systems application which is sport. In particular, our attention is paid to using ICT systems to manage and control organization systems of sport clubs, to manage organization processes of training camps, participation in competitions, as well as the organization and leading of trainings. Majority of studies are financed from the grant “Academic Sports Association Platform” (PeAZS), being a tool of monitoring training, organizational and financial processes of the institutions realizing the ACSS program. The first paper presents assumptions and functionalities of the information-communication system called the e-AZS Platform (PeAZS), the purpose of which was to provide the authorities of the AZS-AWF club of Wrocław with a tool enabling them to integrate the flow of information between the authorities of the sports club, coaches, contestants and the widely understood environment of the sports club (sports unions, sponsors, etc.). The second paper describes a computer aided system for designing sport training. It is important to underline that this system fully identifies all of the factors having influence over the effectiveness of a training process. The system relates to quantifiable disciplines, such as athletics, but the authors expect the development of this system to cover unquantifiable disciplines, such as combative sports, too. The third paper describes and explains the usage of IT and electronic tools to register behaviours when playing volleyball, based on the example of Plus Liga. The fourth paper describes new Internet communication technologies, basing on the example of Polish sports organizations. In particular, popular forms of Internet communication (NICT) were described, while pointing to the need of improvement of the competences relating to the use of NICT. In the fifth paper the authors investigate the issue of the valuation of sports clubs’ intangible assets, with the use of new media. It is shown that media value, created by the new media (social media), may be an indirect element possibly deciding on the value of a club and particular subjects participating in it. A practical example of this type of a valuation process (assessment of the value of an event, a club, a player) is Pentagon Research – a company which has been dealing with these issues for many years now. The sixth paper presents the possibility of using the e-learning solutions in sports organizations. The authors highlight the need to widen communication channels in the processes of sports learning, and present, in a systematic manner, the implications of solutions relating to electronic development and building of knowledge repositories. The seventh paper describes the functioning of fitness clubs, so popular nowadays all around Poland. They require the application of modern IT tools in client management. The article describes the basic functions and modules used to manage data, allowing for the improvement of communications processes with the clients of a fitness club. The eighth paper describes theoretical indications of the possibilities to develop an integrated management system for the needs of sports organizations. It has been suggested that the development of such system should be based on the concept of business social responsibility. An important added value of this concept is the thesis on the need of cross-sectoral integration, giving rise to the development of a system engaging private and public subjects, which may, in turn, favour the improvement of the relationships between the subjects functioning in these sectors. The ninth, and final, paper of this issue of Business Informatics is research on designing strategies for managing the relationship with clients with the use of broadly understood ICT tools. It is worth mentioning here that the research was carried out basing on the example of a global sports organization – Pure Jatomi. As a consequence, the authors describe ICT tools in the context of the p (...)

This volume is dedicated to the International PhD Program “Searching for Identity: Global Challenges, Local Traditions,” organized at the Faculty of “Artes Liberales” of the University of Warsaw, in 2013–2018. The volume aims at showing identity as a processual concept, using the example of the researcher as a living personality. It thus corresponds with the general trend in the humanities and social sciences to pay attention to the researcher and the ways his or her personal background and experience influence the generation of knowledge. By introducing this topic, we would like to show completing a PhD, or any other research, as a dynamic process with a personal history of success and failure, as well as to demonstrate the impact of the “Searching for Identity” project.

This volume of the Business Informatics contains extended versions of the selected papers accepted at the 12th Conference on Advanced Information Technologies for Management AITM’2014. The AITM’2014 was organized within the framework of the Federated Conference on Computer Science and Information Systems in Warsaw, September 7-10, 2014. This is also the fifteenth volume in the series of monographs entitled “Advanced Information Technologies for Management.” The series was initiated in 2001, and each year a new volume is published. The purpose of this initiative has been the popularization and dissemination of research results in the area of business information systems. To effectively support long-term management processes, information systems must relate to current models of conducting business initiatives and their development directions as well as supporting the latest information technologies. Such solutions are desired by managers, information system developers and stakeholders. The first volume contained only articles written by researchers and Ph.D. students of the Department of Informatics at Wrocław University of Economics, Poland. In the years 2002–2006, the publication was given national character linked with National Scientific Conferences under the same title as the monograph series. Since 2007 all papers have been published only in English to disseminate this series in foreign countries. As a result, the scope of the monograph has been extended and the publication has gained a kind of “added value.” This year the volume of Business Informatics continued the convention of providing researchers as well as practitioners with an opportunity to present new results of Information Technology applied in business and management, and to discuss current achievements and applications. The papers present various viewpoints of Information Technology, perspectives and research results derived from diverse concepts and scientific foundations. The AITM’2014 had second the highest number of submissions since 2007. The acceptance rate of 42.11% is an indicator of the quality of the papers presented at the conference are included in this volume of Business Informatics. The list of authors includes a large number of scientists from Polish universities as well as practitioners from consulting and integration firms. As each year, a large number of papers were submitted by Polish authors representing two leading universities of economics from Poznań and Wrocław. This year our volume also contains articles written by researchers from Bulgaria (Bulgarian Academy of Science, Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Sofia), Germany (Technische Universität, Dresden), Macedonia (Military Academy “General Mihailo Apostolski” and Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopje) and the United States of America (Georgetown University, Washington, DC). The publication of this volume has been linked with the organization of the 12th Conference on Advanced Information Technologies for Management AITM’2014 (Warsaw, September 7–10, 2014), thus allowing for yet another presentation of ideas, concepts and IT applications to a wider audience. All papers were in this volume were presented during the AITM’2014. It should be noted that the AITM’2014 was one of the important events of the Federated Conference on Computer Science and Information Systems FedCSIS’2013, which was attended by over 350 registered participants representing 45 countries from all over the world. We want to address special thanks to the FedCSIS’2014 organizers – Leszek Maciaszek, Marcin Paprzycki and Maria Ganzha – without their hard work and continuous support, it would not have been possible to have such a great conference. Finally, we would like to thank all the members of the program committee for their quick and thorough work. Particularly, special thanks are due to the authors and the reviewers for their insightful and critical evaluation of all articles. We kindly invite all participants, authors, readers and reviewers to visit the webpage of the FedCSIS (...)

With the publication of the current issue of the journal Econometrics Ekonometria. Advances in Applied Data Analysis, we present four articles. Kirsi Purhonen, Marja- -Leena Kauronen, Olli Lehtonen, Angelika Polak and Valdemar Kallunki describe the results of visual research methods (VRM) for recognising the social identities and behaviour of non-smokers and smokers. VRM provide precise results regarding the phenomenon and offer a sympathetic, considerate and suitable way to examine it. The paper by Yeong Nain Chi and Orson Chi concerns the modelling and forecasting of the monthly global price of bananas. The primary purpose of this study was to pursue the analysis of the time series data and to demonstrate the role of the time series model in the predicting process using long-term records of the monthly global price of bananas. The study of the equilibrium short-rate models and no-arbitrage models is the subject of the paper by Dushko Josheski and Mico Apostolov, in which equilibrium short-rate models were presented as one-factor short-rate models, the Cox-Ingersoll-Ross (CIR) model and the Vasicek model, and no-arbitrage models were the Hull-White (HW) model, the Binomial lattice model for bond pricing and interest rate modelling, the Black-Karasinski (BK) model, and the Heath-Jarrow- -Morton (HJM) model. In this issue Anna Sulima describes the absence of arbitrage on the complete Black-Scholes-Merton regime-switching Lévy market. In the considered model, the prices of financial assets were described by the Lévy process in which the coefficients depend on the states of the Markov chain. Such a market is incomplete, and in order to complete it, jump financial instruments and power-jump assets were added.

The aim of the e-book is to present the theoretical, cognitive and practical aspects of the essence and complexity of operational management in a production company. The presented modern production methods together with the challenges and problems of contemporary enterprises should better help to understand the issues of sustainable development, with particular emphasis on waste. The book consists of six chapters devoted to relevant and topic issues relating to the core business of an industrial enterprise. Chapter 1 The nature of the industrial enterprise is an introduction to further considerations and deals with the essence of the basic aspects of the company. Both popular and less known definitions of an enterprise, its features, functions and principles of operation are presented. An important part of the chapter is the presentation and formulation of strategic, tactical and operational goals. Moreover, the division of enterprises is presented with the use of various criteria and the features of the industrial market, which make it distinct. Chapter 2 The operational management evolution and its role in the industrial enterprise discusses the evolution and concept of production and operational management. The management levels were also presented, indicating their most important functions. An integral part of the chapter is the essence of the production system, viewed through the prism of the five elements. Chapter 3 Functions and role in operations management presents the issues concerning the organization of production processes, production capacity and inventory management. This part also presents considerations on cooperation and collaboration between enterprises in the process of creating value. Chapter 4 Traditional methods used in operational activities focuses on methods such as benchmarking, outsourcing, core competences, JIT, MPR I and MRP II, as well as TQM and kaizen. Knowledge of these methods should contribute to understanding the activities of modern enterprises, the way of company functioning, the realization of production activities, as well as aspects related to building a competitive position. Chapter 5 Modern methods used in production-operations management discusses the less common and less frequently used production methods, based on a modern and innovative approach. In particular, it was focused on: Shop Floor Control and cooperative manufacturing, environment-conscious manufacturing (ECM) and life-cycle assessment ( LCA), waste management and recycling, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), virtual enterprise, World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and House of Quality (HOQ), theory of constraints (TOC), Drum Buffer Rope (DBR), group technology (GT) and cellular manufacturing (CM), Demand Chain Management and competitive intelligence (CI). In the last section discusses: the role of sustainable statistical process control and Computer-Aided Process Planning in context formatting of information management. Chapter 6 Problems of sustainable development and challenges related to production and operations management describes the problem and challenges related to production and operations activities. In particular, attention was paid to the threats related to changes in global warming, the growing scale of waste, or the processes of globalization. It was pointed out that the emerging problem may be both a threat and a chance for the development of enterprises. An integral part of the chapter are also considerations on technical progress, innovation and the importance of human capital in operational activities.

Autor podaje dane frekwencyjne czasowników niedokonanych i dokonanych w poszczególnych formach gramatycznych i interpretuje je zgodnie z przedstawioną teorią. The author describes various logical and linguistic oppositions which influence the choice between a perfective and imperfective verb, verb prefixes and aspectual classes. The description of events and the narrative are considered the main functions of the perfective aspect. The use of the imperfective aspect in legal texts, such as criminal-law codes, is also discussed in the work.

Redaktorzy serii Marek Zirk-Sadowski, Tomasz Bekrycht We are presenting to Readers the work which is a result of co-operation between Polish and Ukrainian specialists in jurisprudence. The texts which are presented in this monography are an example of pursuing a postulate of external and internal integration of jurisprudence. In our opinion, the theses presented in it have a chance of becoming an important voice in discussions on various forms of law violation and use of loopholes in law (law avoidance, abuse of law, tax avoidance etc.). Undoubtedly, the theses also constitute an interesting view from the perspective of an analysis of the legal transformation process in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (especially Poland and Ukraine).
